Bring down IE6, together we shall prevail

by Chenxi on March 5, 2010

In last year, the.Net Magazine,a UK based web designer magazine, rallied web developers / designers who tired of supporting IE 6 and  fixing the bugs and security issues together with it, and started the Bring Down IE6 Campaign.

Personally I totally totally agree on this protest. IE 6 has been the bane of web developers/designers for ages, and yet remains in the marketplace. According to the w3cschool web browser popularity page, IE 6 still occupies a proportion of 10.2%, almost on par compared to Google’s ambitious Chrome. This is no good!

Little can I do as a mere developer but together we shall prevail! I have downloaded and installed the Shockingly Big IE6 Warning WordPress plugin so anyone who still uses IE 6 would get a big ugly warning message on top of screen. Hopefully this will notify them to upgrade to some modern web browsers. Although I doubt anyone who visits this geeky site would likely use IE 6 as the browser if they call themselves web developers/designers.
